How to Use This Tool
Translate physical bleed and trim size into pixel dimensions at a chosen PPI. Convert print bleed in millimeters to pixels and calculate final artwork width and height at an editable pixels-per-inch setting.
The decision this tool supports
Designers sometimes convert 3 mm once and add it to the full dimension, forgetting that bleed applies to both edges. This page keeps the decision bounded to bleed per edge and the supporting outputs shown beside it. Bleed mm to Pixels does not import an account, infer a market rate, or silently substitute an industry average.
Inputs and units
The Bleed mm to Pixels calculation uses Trim width, Trim height, Bleed on each edge, Resolution. Keep all money values in one currency and all time, distance, mass, energy or volume entries in the unit printed beside the field. Mixing Bleed mm to Pixels scopes can produce a plausible number with the wrong meaning.
- Trim width is entered in mm.
- Trim height is entered in mm.
- Bleed on each edge is entered in mm.
- Resolution is entered in pixels/inch.
Formula and worked check
Pixels = millimeters × PPI ÷ 25.4; artwork dimensions add bleed on both opposing edges before conversion. At 300 PPI, 3 mm is 35.43 px per edge; A4 trim with bleed becomes 2,551.18 × 3,578.74 px. The Bleed mm to Pixels default is an executable known-answer case, not a benchmark or recommendation. Change one input and verify that the direction of bleed per edge still matches the stated relationship.
How to interpret the result
Pixel values may be fractional mathematically; follow the printer's rounding and export requirements for final raster dimensions. The additional Bleed mm to Pixels outputs expose the denominator, comparison, capacity or reverse value needed to audit the primary result instead of presenting one unexplained number.
Assumptions
- One inch equals exactly 25.4 millimeters.
- Bleed is equal on all four edges.
- Resolution means pixels per physical inch.
Save the Bleed mm to Pixels input values and date with any material decision. A later Bleed mm to Pixels rerun is reproducible only when the same assumptions and units are available.
Limitations and safety boundary
PPI conversion does not set document metadata, color mode, crop marks, safe area or the printer's required bleed. Bleed mm to Pixels is an estimate and cannot replace a contract, local code, licensed professional, calibrated measurement, lender statement or platform report where one governs the decision.
