The decision this tool supports
Wall area does not reveal finishing workload when board layout, corners and joint length differ, so a seam-based rate is easier to reconcile with a test section. This page keeps the decision bounded to compound required and the supporting outputs shown beside it. Drywall Compound does not import an account, infer a market rate, or silently substitute an industry average.
Inputs and units
The Drywall Compound calculation uses Total seam length, Compound coats, Pounds per 100 seam-feet per coat, Waste allowance, Container weight. Keep all money values in one currency and all time, distance, mass, energy or volume entries in the unit printed beside the field. Mixing Drywall Compound scopes can produce a plausible number with the wrong meaning.

Formula and worked check
Base pounds = seam feet ÷ 100 × coats × measured pounds per 100 feet per coat; total adds the entered waste rate. Six hundred seam-feet, three coats, 4.5 lb per 100 feet per coat and 12% waste require 90.72 lb, or six 18-lb containers. The Drywall Compound default is an executable known-answer case, not a benchmark or recommendation. Change one input and verify that the direction of compound required still matches the stated relationship.
How to interpret the result
Measure consumption on a representative first coat and replace the default rate before purchasing the remaining whole containers. The additional Drywall Compound outputs expose the denominator, comparison, capacity or reverse value needed to audit the primary result instead of presenting one unexplained number.
