The decision this tool supports
Equal time per course ignores credit load and difficulty, while fixed assignment commitments consume hours before discretionary study begins. This page keeps the decision bounded to flexible hours available and the supporting outputs shown beside it. Coursework Balance does not import an account, infer a market rate, or silently substitute an industry average.
Inputs and units
The Coursework Balance calculation uses Total course credits, Average difficulty weight, Study hours available, Fixed assignment hours, Target study hours per weighted credit. Keep all money values in one currency and all time, distance, mass, energy or volume entries in the unit printed beside the field. Mixing Coursework Balance scopes can produce a plausible number with the wrong meaning.

- Target study hours per weighted credit is entered in hours.
Formula and worked check
Weighted demand = credits × difficulty weight × target hours per weighted credit; flexible time = available study hours − fixed assignment hours. Fifteen credits at weight 1.2 and target 2 require 36 hours; only 22 flexible hours remain from a 30-hour budget after eight fixed hours. The Coursework Balance default is an executable known-answer case, not a benchmark or recommendation. Change one input and verify that the direction of flexible hours available still matches the stated relationship.
How to interpret the result
A positive shortfall signals that the entered target cannot fit the weekly study budget without changing scope, support or availability. The additional Coursework Balance outputs expose the denominator, comparison, capacity or reverse value needed to audit the primary result instead of presenting one unexplained number.
