The decision this tool supports
Nominal bay dimensions overstate usable capacity when carton width leaves unusable gaps and operations reserve open space. This page keeps the decision bounded to required shelf length and the supporting outputs shown beside it. Carton Shelf Space does not import an account, infer a market rate, or silently substitute an industry average.

The Carton Shelf Space calculation uses Cartons to store, Carton shelf width, Cartons deep, Shelf levels per bay, Bay clear width, Target utilization. Keep all money values in one currency and all time, distance, mass, energy or volume entries in the unit printed beside the field. Mixing Carton Shelf Space scopes can produce a plausible number with the wrong meaning.

Formula and worked check
Raw shelf feet = cartons ÷ cartons deep × carton width ÷ 12; planned length divides raw length by target utilization. Two hundred forty cartons, 16 inches wide and two deep require 160 raw shelf feet or 188.24 feet at 85% utilization. The Carton Shelf Space default is an executable known-answer case, not a benchmark or recommendation. Change one input and verify that the direction of required shelf length still matches the stated relationship.
How to interpret the result
The planned linear length is a network total; rounded bays expose the discrete storage footprint under the entered orientation. The additional Carton Shelf Space outputs expose the denominator, comparison, capacity or reverse value needed to audit the primary result instead of presenting one unexplained number.
