01 · SOURCEUTF-8 TEXT
Compare your result with a publisher checksum.
Ready to hash
Text is encoded as UTF-8. Files are read as bytes. Both operations stay in this browser.
02 · FOUR DIGESTSWAITING
Short single word.
If this is a password, hashing it here does not protect it. Password storage needs a slow, salted algorithm such as Argon2, scrypt, or bcrypt.
Digests update as you type.
Security and compatibility
SHA-1 is broken for security use and is listed only for legacy checks. MD5 is unavailable in browser SubtleCrypto. Do not store passwords with a fast SHA digest; use a maintained password-hashing library.

Runs in this browser. Text and file bytes stay in this browser. Web Crypto reads the complete file into memory, so the practical size limit depends on your device.
