The decision this tool supports
Retail tariffs and market quotations often use different energy denominators, making a thousand-fold unit mistake possible. This page keeps the decision bounded to currency per mwh and the supporting outputs shown beside it. Electricity Tariff Units does not import an account, infer a market rate, or silently substitute an industry average.
Inputs and units
The Electricity Tariff Units calculation uses Tariff in cents per kWh, Monthly electricity use. Keep all money values in one currency and all time, distance, mass, energy or volume entries in the unit printed beside the field. Mixing Electricity Tariff Units scopes can produce a plausible number with the wrong meaning.
- Tariff in cents per kWh is entered in cents/kWh.
- Monthly electricity use is entered in kWh.
Formula and worked check
Currency per kWh = cents per kWh ÷ 100; currency per MWh = currency per kWh × 1,000. 18.5 cents per kWh equals $0.185 per kWh or $185 per MWh; 850 kWh costs $157.25 before other charges. The Electricity Tariff Units default is an executable known-answer case, not a benchmark or recommendation. Change one input and verify that the direction of currency per mwh still matches the stated relationship.
How to interpret the result
The monthly charge is energy-only under the entered rate and is useful as a unit check, not a full bill forecast. The additional Electricity Tariff Units outputs expose the denominator, comparison, capacity or reverse value needed to audit the primary result instead of presenting one unexplained number.
