How to Use This Tool
Balance production, publishing pace and reserve to forecast backlog runway. Calculate creator content backlog runway, weekly net burn and production needed to maintain a practical target reserve.
The decision this tool supports
A backlog count sounds comfortable until publishing cadence exceeds replenishment and the protected reserve is consumed. This page keeps the decision bounded to weeks until reserve and the supporting outputs shown beside it. Content Backlog Burn does not import an account, infer a market rate, or silently substitute an industry average.
Inputs and units
The Content Backlog Burn calculation uses Ready items in backlog, Items produced per week, Items published per week, Minimum reserve. Keep all money values in one currency and all time, distance, mass, energy or volume entries in the unit printed beside the field. Mixing Content Backlog Burn scopes can produce a plausible number with the wrong meaning.
- Ready items in backlog is entered in items.
- Items produced per week is entered in items/week.
- Items published per week is entered in items/week.
- Minimum reserve is entered in items.
Formula and worked check
Net burn = weekly publishing − weekly production; weeks to reserve = (ready backlog − reserve) ÷ net burn. Twenty-eight ready items, three produced and five published weekly, with an eight-item reserve, provide 10 weeks until reserve. The Content Backlog Burn default is an executable known-answer case, not a benchmark or recommendation. Change one input and verify that the direction of weeks until reserve still matches the stated relationship.
How to interpret the result
The runway is finite only when publishing exceeds production; close the displayed weekly production gap to stabilize the reserve. The additional Content Backlog Burn outputs expose the denominator, comparison, capacity or reverse value needed to audit the primary result instead of presenting one unexplained number.
Assumptions
- Backlog includes only publish-ready items.
- Production and publishing use equivalent item units.
- The reserve is not intentionally published during the forecast.
Save the Content Backlog Burn input values and date with any material decision. A later Content Backlog Burn rerun is reproducible only when the same assumptions and units are available.
Limitations and safety boundary
It assumes consistent item size and weekly cadence, excluding production delays, rejected drafts and seasonal schedule changes. Content Backlog Burn is an estimate and cannot replace a contract, local code, licensed professional, calibrated measurement, lender statement or platform report where one governs the decision.
