How to Use This Tool

Compare user-entered Visa, Mastercard, issuer or bank scenarios side by side without fetching or claiming an official live rate. Compare several user-entered card exchange rates, fees, markups and rewards for one purchase, then rank net charges and export the table.

The work this page finishes

A traveler with several cards can copy different quoted network or issuer rates but still has to reconcile each card's percentage fee, markup, fixed charge and reward before knowing which scenario is cheapest. For Card Rate Comparison, keeping source order beside the computed artifact lets a user repair only the failed entries and reproduce the same batch later.

The three default scenarios rank the Mastercard-labeled user input first at USD 1,071.63 net and expose a USD 19.45 gap to the highest-cost scenario.

Deterministic workflow

For each valid user-entered scenario, convert the same purchase, apply markup, foreign fee and fixed fee, subtract the entered reward estimate, sort by net charge and show every difference from the best and optional reference case. For Card Rate Comparison, a run is capped at 5,000 items and 2 MB, preventing an accidental oversized paste while preserving successful rows when another row fails.

Why a dedicated interface helps

Label scenarios with the source and time of the rate you entered, rank them for the same purchase, and repeat after settlement if you want to reconcile the estimate with final statements. For Card Rate Comparison, a purpose-built form exposes every assumption and returns the same ordered structure on every run, which is more practical than reconciling shifting conversational output.

Assumptions

  • Every entered rate uses billing-currency units per one transaction-currency unit.
  • All scenarios describe the same purchase and settlement basis.
  • Rewards are editable estimates applied to the gross modeled charge.

For Card Rate Comparison, keep an untouched copy for comparison after import; the browser performs the work locally, but local software and extensions are not controlled by this page.

Limitations and review boundary

Visa and Mastercard names are user labels only; this unaffiliated tool does not retrieve, verify or endorse an official network rate, forecast settlement, recommend a card or model reward eligibility rules. For Card Rate Comparison, the implementation neither follows user-entered links nor evaluates their contents, and it displays material as plain text rather than active HTML.

Verification and provenance

Fixtures derived from the displayed rule and Mastercard — Currency Converter were reviewed on 2026-08-29; they include normal, empty or invalid, and partial-failure behavior. The three default scenarios rank the Mastercard-labeled user input first at USD 1,071.63 net and expose a USD 19.45 gap to the highest-cost scenario.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this compare live Visa and Mastercard rates?
No. Every scenario rate is entered by the user. Labels such as Visa or Mastercard identify the user's scenario and do not establish that a value is official, current or complete.
Why compare net charge instead of only the rate?
A slightly better conversion rate can be outweighed by a foreign fee, issuer markup or fixed charge. Rewards may offset part of the modeled cost, so the final ranking uses all entered components.
Can I compare two cards from the same network?
Yes. Scenario labels are free text, and the calculation does not assume that all cards on one network share issuer fees, markups, rewards or settlement behavior.
How are invalid rows handled?
A blank or duplicate label, nonpositive rate, negative fixed fee, or percentage outside zero to 100 is rejected. Valid scenarios still remain in the ranked export.
What is the reference-rate column?
It compares each modeled net charge with the amount produced by an optional rate you enter, such as a dated mid-market reference. It is a benchmark, not a claim about what a card should charge.
Does the cheapest estimate identify the best card overall?
No. It ranks only the entered purchase scenario. Annual fees, insurance, acceptance, interest, cash-advance rules, reward redemption and other benefits remain outside the calculation.
