How to Use This Tool

App Store Connect uses several limits that look similar but are not measured identically. Apple currently limits the app name and subtitle to 30 characters, promotional text to 170 characters and description to 4,000 characters. The keyword field is different: its ceiling is 100 bytes, so translated text can consume the budget faster than an on-screen character counter suggests.

Do not waste keyword bytes on known names

Apple says an app is already searchable by its app name and company name, so repeating those values in the keyword list wastes scarce space. The checker flags exact comma-separated keyword duplicates and words from the app name that are repeated as keyword entries. It does not invent keyword demand or promise ranking.

A 100-byte field is not always a 100-character field.

Length is only the submission gate

A field fitting the limit says nothing about clarity, conversion or compliance. The app name should identify the product, the subtitle should add a distinct benefit, and the description should explain actual functionality in plain text. Apple does not support HTML in the description. Review the current App Store Connect reference whenever the platform changes.

Model assumptions

  • Counts use Unicode code points for character-limited fields and UTF-8 bytes for Apple's keyword field.
  • Passing length checks does not guarantee App Review approval, policy compliance or search performance.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the App Store app-name limit?
Apple currently requires at least two characters and no more than 30 characters for the localized app name.
How long can an App Store subtitle be?
The subtitle cannot exceed 30 characters. Use it to add meaning rather than repeat the app name.
Are App Store keywords limited by characters or bytes?
Apple documents up to 100 bytes of keyword content. Non-ASCII characters can use multiple UTF-8 bytes.
What is the promotional-text limit?
Promotional text can be up to 170 characters and can describe current features without requiring an updated app submission.
How long can the full App Store description be?
Apple currently limits the description to 4,000 characters and requires plain text; HTML formatting is not supported.
Does passing this checker guarantee approval?
No. It checks measurable field limits and a few duplication issues. App Review, metadata policy, accuracy and trademark rules still apply.
